Therapist/Forensic Interviewer
Position Summary
Therapy of children age 2.5 through adults. Primary areas of therapy concerns are trauma related with crime victimization and a specific focus in evidence based treatment. Primary therapy population is children through teens but supportive caregivers are serviced. Evidence based treatments in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention, Alternatives for Families and Parent Child Interaction Therapy are currently provided at CARE House. Position is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment and coordination.
Forensic interviewing of children and adolescents from ages 3 to 18, and/or vulnerable adults, who are alleged to be victims of physical and/or sexual abuse. Both acute and chronic cases of abuse are assessed; as well as exposure to violent crimes and domestic violence. Interviews are conducted using research-based, nationally recognized protocols/techniques in a developmentally appropriate manner to assess victimization; and to provide legally defensible information. Interviews are conducted in a manner that is legally sound and of a neutral, fact finding nature, and are coordinated to avoid duplicative interviewing.
Specific Responsibilities

Conduct forensic interviews with alleged child/adolescent victims, as requested, by referring agencies.

Interface with staff of partnering agencies in order assist with implementation of the CAC project and coordinate services.

Maintain and update case files, case lists, video logbook and statistical tracking in a timely manner.

Organize, coordinate and participate in case reviews with multidisciplinary team.

Attend conferences, seminars, meetings, for the purpose of continuing education on the topic of abuse and victim services to maintain proper training credentials.

Attend and testify in legal proceedings as necessary.

Keep up to date on current trends in therapy, trauma, forensic interviewing, and child abuse

Adhere to the ethical standard of related field.

Maintain all related therapy documentation.

Other duties as assigned.

Provide services at CARE House main site or other locations as needed.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or other counseling related field is mandatory. Licensure as an LPC, LPC-I, LISW or related credentials is required. Completion of forensic interviewing training, such as Child First South Carolina, is preferred but, not required. Training in evidence based therapies such as TF-CBT and PCIT is preferred but not required. Individual must have the ability to become an integral part of a coordinated investigative team. At least three years of experience working with children and families preferred. Ability to relate to children of different races and socio-economic backgrounds is essential. Experience with and/or a working knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, sexual abuse, child development, and the criminal justice system highly preferred. Additional requirements include: a nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of individual children and their families, the ability to engage and maintain positive relationships with clients and staff, the ability to develop collaborative relationships with other providers, effective interpersonal communication skills, the ability to assess and intervene within complex family and community systems, and a willingness to be flexible, patient and creative.
Salary: Salaried, exempt and according to the current hiring guide. Salary based upon experience.
